With a background in children’s educational media research, Barrie brings a unique understanding of technology to content development and curation. Barrie completed graduate research in games and learning at Georgetown University (M.A.)
She received a postgraduate fellowship from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, supported by a National Science Foundation award for early education in STEM. Published research can be found in the ACM Digital Library and Kidscreen Magazine.
From 2020-2022, Barrie helped Columbia University's School of Professional Studies shift in-person programs to virtual and hybrid curriculum. In her workshop, "Designing Futures: New Media World-Building" students in the pre-college Academic Year Immersion program created collaborative art to motivate climate action. Their work was minted to the tezos blockchain and is on display in our virtual Museum for the Futures in Miro and on objkt.com. Student work was also shown in Paris at the NFT Impact show at the NFT Factory (2022) and SXSWEdu (2021).
Barrie is a teaching artist at the DreamYard Project and a program designer with Columbia University, School of the Arts, Digital Storytelling Lab. She teaches Interactive Narrative in the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Integrated Design & Media Program.
